Let My Words Be Few

"God's holiness silences human boasting." - Max Lucado, "Its Not About Me"

"Sometimes I just have to remember that God is God and I am not". I had lunch with a couple of friends Friday and this comment came up from one of them regarding some things that had been happening in her life. How true, huh? So when I saw that we were going to be singing Matt Redman's "Let My Words Be Few" this coming Sunday, I just had to smile. Before I go any further, let's take a look at the words to the song:

by Matt and Beth Redman

You are God in heaven
And here am I on earth
So I'll let my words be few
Jesus, I am so in love with You

And I'll stand in awe of You, Jesus
Yes, I'll stand in awe of You
And I'll let my words be few
Jesus, I am so in love with You

The simplest of all love songs
I want to bring to You
So I'll let my words be few
Jesus, I am so in love with You

God is God and we are not, therefore, we shouldn't really have anything to say, right?  Why is it that we always feel the need to make ourselves look important?  I wish I knew the answer to that!

Ecc 5:2 says "Be not rash with thy mouth, and let not thine heart be hasty to utter any thing before God: for God is in heaven, and thou upon earth: therefore let thy words be few."  What a reminder of our place in this world.  Do we really think we can figure every thing out on our own?  Should we even waste our time trying?  We should be so in love with Jesus that we just sit in silence before Him, hanging on His every word.

How much in awe are you of God?

"O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out! For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counsellor? (Ro 12:33-34)

I believe that Matthew Henry's commentary compares man counselling God to lighting a match next to the sun.  We don't really have anything to offer.  Just as the sun doesn't need the match, God doesn't need our advice.  We just need to accept that He has everything under control and give Him the gift of our love in reverent silence.

God is in heaven and I am a little speck on earth.  I get it.
