Reflections on 1 Timothy 1
Behold God's Creation

From Trials to Hope

And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance, and perseverance, character; and character, hope.  (Romans 5:3-4 NKJV)

Dear readers, my heart has been so heavy the past week for those who are struggling to make it through another day in their current situations, whatever they may be.  As I write this entry, I wish that I could look each one in the eyes personally and tell them that tomorrow is a new day with new opportunities to begin anew.  I know that I write a lot about hope and the power of Jesus Christ to provide us that hope for a new day and for the strength to make it through.  I'm almost starting to believe that this is the message God has entrusted me with to share.  That though, is still yet to be determined.  But God has entrusted me with something, that I do know.

According to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust.  And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry; (1 Timothy 1:11-12)

I'm trying to be faithful today, to share that glorious gospel, the good news, that was committed to my trust.  To me, the good news is not only the eternal life giving truth of Jesus' sacrifice for our salvation, although the belief in Jesus alone for salvation is certainly the most essential and elementary good news of the gospel.  I believe that the good news of Christ extends far deeper into our Christian lives than this because once we become believers, we can tap into the power of God through Jesus, which is our hope (1 Tim 1:1)...our hope for joy and peace no matter where we find ourselves in life.  If we can discipline ourselves to take our problems directly to God through Jesus Christ, we can have the peace.  God promises it to us in black and white.

Philippians 4: 6-7 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.  And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Hope though, is sometimes hard to come by when life gets us down, don't you think?  Only our past experiences compared with the promises of scripture can reassure us that God will also bring us through our current circumstances.  As Romans 5:3-4 above states, hope is produced through making it through trials.

What are you trusting God for to get you through this time?  A difficult job? A troubled marriage?  Financial difficulties? A recurring stronghold that has once again reared its ugly head?  No matter what it is, God is there just waiting for us to reach out to Him.  He is there ready to take our hand in His.  Won't you give your hand to Him today?

Isaiah 41:10 Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

Isaiah 41:13 For I the LORD thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not, I will help thee.

Father, I thank You so much for the way you hold me up each and every day.  I pray that whoever in the world needs to hear your words of comfort and encouragement will find what they are so desparately needing.  I pray that those who read this post today who are suffering will find some relief from their pain.  For others who aren't so weary, I pray that they are reminded of someone in their lives that can be encouraged by the words You've given me today.  You are our strength and our courage...Thank You.  Amen.
